Intro
I have sold many 1950s and 1960s Harmony OM or as Harmony themselves titled them, "Grand Concert" models, over the years, which come in various finishing and timber combinations, and brandings, including Silvertone, for Sears, and Regal.

I have invariably had excellent buyer's feedback on these guitars, but one particular purchaser summed it up - "Wonderful tone and very, very playable. I'm having trouble putting it down. It's as you said, a great fingerstyle guitar and, in open G, a fab slide guitar. Again, thank you very much, Bob."

These are classic Chicago, USA built Harmony Flattop Acoustic Guitars. The original inside ink date stamp usually gives the dating of the guitar in the form of S-** or F-**, indicating that guitar was made in the Spring/Summer or Fall production run of that year. This is one of Harmony's longest running model ranges, first made as far back as 1940, through to 1975, and part of the "family" of Harmony models which also includes the Spruce and Mahogany H165, the All Mahogany H165, and many others....a type of guitar beloved of many bluesmen of the time, for there sound quality and sheer playability, including Lightnin' Hopkins on the H165.

With it's ladder braced body, I am very enthusiastic about this family of Harmony guitars, which I think rival many far more exalted and expensive USA made acoustics in terms of tone, volume and sheer playability - an ideal addition to any collection of blues/vintage guitars!

Condition
All guitars are restored to the same high standards as the scores of other Harmony guitars, which I have restored and sold over the years.

The concentration is on structural soundness and playability, rather than any cosmetic touching-up, and certainly no ill-advised refinishing, but of course the guitars are sympathetically cleaned, setup and re-strung, as part restoration.

For availability and individual details on the various guitars, and the restoration work being done on them, please do contact me by email or telephone.
Action, strings & cases
I set out to achieve a 12th. fret action of between 2.5mm. and 3.5mm. on these guitars...but if that sounds high to you, please bear in mind that we are in a totally different world of guitar-playing here, to which we cannot apply the "all my guitars have an action of less than 2mm." approach. These are blues guitars, and as such it is expected that players will use a bottleneck slide, in which case a low/electric type action just does not work, and some fret clearance is essential.

I fit Martin Bronze Light 12-54 gauge strings as standard, but happy to discuss other string types/gauges to buyer's requirements.

The guitars do not usually come with cases, although I do have some of the original covered pressed-board cases originally supplied with these guitars....those who remember these will recall that they are not exactly what we would now call a fitted case! Alternatively, I may be able to offer a suitable size Hiscox Liteflite hardshell case, offering infinitely better protection. Additional case prices available on request.

**** YOUTUBE ****
------------------------------------------------------------

You can find various clips of Harmony Grand Concert models, including one of the Spruce & Mahogany H162 by "ohgoodthinking99", which I have included as "Useful Link #2, and one of Lightnin' Hopkins playing his very similar but All Mahogany H165, or again Mance Lipscomb on his H1203 Sovereign, on the 'tube, and there is a lot of stuff on the net generally - not all of which should be believed - these are great vintage guitars - and I make sure that they are playable! - If they were good enough for Mance Lipscomb & Lighnin' Hopkins, then.........!! Check out the YouTube video I have embedded here, of Lightnin' Hopkins playing the on "Going Down Slow" to hear the great tone these guitars have!
