Brief details of previously sold Harmony USA made acoustic 21.5" Scale guitars - see "VTG AVAILABLE" listings, in the Terz Guitar section, for similar available guitars or contact me.
I sell these superb little guitars as often as I can, but they are scarce and not easy to get hold off.

This is the 3/4 version - the little brother! - of the famous Stella H929, the full size version having been in production continuously for a full quarter of a century, from 1945 to 1970. It is very similar in dimensions to the iconic Martin Terz Guitars, and therefore equally suitable for that unique sounding Raised Third/Terz "G" Tuning, or other raised tunings. These are serious guitars, despite their small size, not toys in any sense, and I have sold as many as I can get hold of over the last 5 years or so, including the same size 3/4 version of another ultra long-running Harmony Spruce and Mahogany model, the H162.
Here are some, not all, of the Harmony made Three-Quarter/Terz Guitars I have sold in recent times - in some cases other examples of the same models may be currently available, or at least "in the workshop". Please enquire for current availability, prices and further details.

All guitars are restored to the same high standards as the scores of other Harmony & Stella guitars produced by Harmony throughout their long ownership of the Stella name from around 1940, up to the termination of USA production in Chicago in 1975, which I have restored and sold over the years.

The concentration is on structural soundness and playability, rather than any cosmetic touching-up, and certainly no ill-advised refinishing, but of course the guitars are sympathetically cleaned, setup and re-strung, as part restoration.

For availability and individual details on the various guitars, and the restoration work being done on them, please do contact me by email or telephone.
Action, strings & cases
I set out to achieve a 12th. fret action of around 2.5mm/3mm. on Stella 3/4 size guitars...sometimes it is a little lower, but if that sounds high to you, please bear in mind that we are in a totally different world of guitar-playing here, to which we cannot apply the "all my guitars have an action of less than 2mm." approach. These are blues guitars, albeit nominated 3/4 size by Harmony, the overall size & scale length is of a much smaller Terz guitar. Players may still wish to use a bottleneck slide, in which case a low/electric type action just does not work...added to which the much shorter 21.5" scale means lower string tension and easier fretting. Further options for raised tunings bring further variables into the equation.

Although very small, these guitars punch like heavyweights - loud and strident - just what a pokey little Stella should be - but with it's own unique rather "old-timey" tone - hard to put into words, but usually there is a certain element of Banjo-ishness in the sound of the treble strings, which the fretwire saddle will aid, but also with a nice rasp at the lower end, still there on one where I replaced the fretwire with a purpose made Bone saddle. Ideal for blues/ragtime and similar styles - but do believe it is not short on either tone or decibels! For full time slide playing, a nut riser can be obtained for a few pounds only!

Martin Bronze Light 12-54 strings can be fitted for concert pitch tuning. Extra-light steels, or Martin Silk and Steel strings, can be fitted as an alternative, which are a better choice if you will be using raised tunings. Depending on how it is played the guitar can produce a very 30s sound you might expect to hear on an old Gospel 78, and a high lilting chime, in a way somewhere between a 12 string acoustic Guitar and a Mandolin. For this some players tune them up slightly, but for this you would certainly fit lighter strings, and I have heard this model elsewhere, similarly sounding superb fitted with Silk & Steel Strings.I am happy to discuss other string types/gauges to buyer's requirements.

There is usually no case included with the guitar, and I regret that I am currently unable to offer a case to fit this small a guitar, but I'm sure that cases for smaller scale instruments such as this are available. Finally - what a great Travel Guitar!!!
